Choosing a law firm and using the services of lawyers
While looking for a lawyer, it is better to follow the recommendation of friends who have used lawyer services in cases similar to ours rather than to choose on the basis of law firm ratings.
Such ratings are based on a variety of criteria which may not matter in our particular case, e.g. the number of employed lawyers or the firm's profit.
It should be kept in mind that the quality of service may be unequal within a law firm. This means that we can get both excellent and mediocre service in the same place. It all depends on the lawyer who manages our case.
Therefore, before we make our final choice of a firm – even if it has been recommended by other lawyers – we should make enquiries about the lawyer who will work for us and his experience in similar cases.
If the price set by the firm is too high for us, it may be worthwhile to compare offers from similar firms. However, putting price first may result in not getting good legal service.
It is important that the lawyer gives us a matter-of-fact and objective analysis of our case. Bear in mind that in complicated cases it may take a few days to make such an analysis.
You should be inquisitive and ask for the weakest points of the case to be pointed out to you. Be on your guard if the lawyer, without having analysed your case, assures you of victory.
